The best idea to do if you think that you are having any feet problems is to get to your doctor as soon as you have a problem. Waiting could be one of the worst things that you can do and may cause a more serous injury.
Let's get some information on foot in tendonitis that can be worth knowing about.
What is Tendonitis Anyway?
First thing is, a tendon is the fibrous tissue that is going to connect the muscle to the bone. The tendon is very strong and works kind of like an elastic band. The purpose of this elastic tissue is to absorb the force from the bone to the muscle when you are performing any activity.
What occurs when there is to much force or strain on the tendon is what is called tendonitis. Then what happens is the tendon becomes inflamed and sore. Here are some reasons on how it can happen:
Overworking your muscles
Rigorous activity
Even time, as when we are getting older (lose the elasticity)
Tendonitis in the Feet
Typically when we have foot problems it is usually the Achilles heel. This type of problem is usually found with runners. The runners really use their heel in a rolling type of motion. When they over strain the muscle that attaches to the heel (Achilles Heel) then they will usually get Achilles heel tendonitis.
When you have foot or Achilles heel problems, you will find that you will have a shooting pain and a burning sensation when you are performing movement in the foot. You can also get this in the top of the foot also, but this is not as common. Joggers and long distance runners are not the only ones to get Achilles heel or foot tendonitis. Anyone can get it, but it is important to see your physician as soon as possible.
Sometimes runners or other athletes will not slow down their activity and not treat their foot pain. This is and can become a huge problem. If left untreated, tendonitis in foot can cause permanent damage to the foot.
What is the treatment?
The main thing to do is to stop the exercising and allow the foot to heal. This is one of the best things that you can do once you are diagnosed with foot or Achilles heel tendonitis. The next thing to do is apply ice packs to your foot while the foot is elevated.
If the pain and inflammation is to much to handle you can take some anti-inflammatory drugs. When the swelling goes down the pain will also go down.
Now What to do when it is gone?
Now that the that the problem has cleared itself, you will need to slowly work yourself back into the exercise program. You have to start slowly and stretch the tendons prior to exercising. Drink plenty of fluids to remain hydrated also.
Foot and Achilles heel Prevention
Here is a little bit of long term prevention. You can try to use a heel cup or even some type of cushion in your running shoes. This support is going to help you to decrease the chances of getting foot or Achilles heel in your feet again.
