Asthma Herbal Treatment
Asthma is an abnormal lung condition characterized by difficulty in breathing. People with asthma have extra sensitive or hyper responsive airways. The airways react by narrowing or obstructing when they become irritated thus making it difficult for the air to move in and out. Jimson Weed is very beneficial for relaxing bronchial spasms in asthma attacks. It also acts to dry up the hyper secretions of the membranes. The mucilage and compounds with antispasmodic and sedative effects of coltsfoot is said to be soothing and calming. Dried coltsfoot is used to make medicinal teas to relieve coughing and pain between the ribs in chest colds, whooping cough, asthma and viral pneumonia. Coltsfoot roots are chewed or made into medicinal teas for treating chest ailments like asthma.

Asclepias tuberosa is an expectorant and vasodilator and soothes the respiratory system. Fresh roots are boiled to make teas for treating asthma. The roots should be boiled to make a tea and drank to help treat asthmatic symptoms. Hyssopus officinalis flowers are a relaxing expectorant and peripheral vasodilator used for respiratory ills and flu. Red clover tea is made from the flowers to treat asthma and the flowers can also be smoked to relieve asthma. Common Mullein is an excellent remedy for inflammatory upper respiratory conditions, and can be used singly or with other remedies, and has peculiar ability to facilitate the effects of other herbs or drugs. The roots can be boiled to make a tea or smaller roots can be chewed on to help decrease asthma symptoms. The inner bark of white mulberry can be used in a tea to help with asthma. Maidenhair fern Tea and/or syrup can be made from this plant to help with asthma. The dried chopped leaves have been used for centuries to relax spasmodic coughing in chest infections and asthma.
Herbal cures are effective in relieving symptoms and prevent the occurrence of hypersensitivity by improving the immune system without causing any side effects. However one should consult with his/her physician before starting the herbal treatment.
